It is based on a painting by Eugene Carriere (signed in the print) and is titled "Portrait Of M. Alphonse Daudet". Daudet was a French Novelist in the mid to late 1800's This print is on heavy paper. It has a few spots of foxing in the margins, and a stain in the upper right margin - not near printed area. otherwise excellent condition.

Japan Proof Photogravure from 1888 published by Haskell & Post CO. in Boston. The print is from Famous Paintings - A Series Of Photogravures From The Great Pictures Of The Nineteenth Century". " It is the first book ever made giving Japan and China Proofs to every subscriber. It is the only book ever made where every plate is a 'Proof Before Letter'. The work will be published in 30 parts each containing three Japan or China Proofs". The Japan proof prints are a thin tissue paper like paper mounted to a large heavy backing paper. This print measures 12" by 18" (printed area - 12" by 9-1/2") Print is in good condition - short margin tears in backing paper (close to edges - not near print).

It is titled "Historical Picture (The Sufferings Of Henry VI Contrasted With Those Of Job)". The engraving is a series of 16 illustrations depicting the theme of the title showing panels of Henry VI and similar panels of Job. The engraving is on fairly heavy paper with no print on the reverse side. It is dated in the upper right corner. Guaranteed to be authentic.

This is a steel engraving of Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian soldier. He fought in the South American revolution of Uraguay and Argentina and later served in his homeland in the defense of Rome. Based on a painting by Sydney P. Hall. Very good condition - no tears or stains - printed one side only - suitable for framing. It is from an 1879 issue of The Graphic, an illustrated weekly magazine published in London, very similar in size and format to Harper's Weekly in the states.


16932 "1880 Prince & Princess of Wales/20x30" Print" $14.00

This is a very large (20" by 30") engraving titled "Prince and Princess Of Wales". It is in very good condition. It was a supplent to the March 6, 1880 issue of The Graphic a British weekly illustrated magazine very silmilar in size and format to Harper's Weekly in the US. the print has a hole about the size of a nickel in the solid black area near the princess's shoulder - could be easily repaired since it is solid black - also, some fold sepatrations have beem repaired on reverse side with acid free conservation tape - otherwise very good condition - not brittle - very clean - no foxing or stains - very framable.

This is a nice pair of 11-1/2" by 16", color prints titled "Sketches of Life and Character In Egypt" (1 sheet has 2 smaller prints - the other is a full page print) . The individual prints are titled:
  • The English General's Syces - Cairo
  • Life at Shepheard's Hotel, Cairo
  • Registering Fellaheen for Military Service, Luxor
They are based on drawings by Lady Butler (Miss Elizabeth Thompson).. The prints were supplements to The Graphic, an illustrated weekly magazine published in London, similar to Harper's Weekly in the US. The prints are in very good condition and are both dated February 16, 1889. Nice examples of early color printing - printed on one side only - nice framable prints.

The print is in very good condition - no foxing - not brittle. It is suitable for framing - printed one side only - no print on the reverse side. It was a large supplmental, foldout print from an 1880 issue of The Graphic, an illustrated weekly magazine similar in size and format to Harper's Weekly Magazine and published in London. The print has 1 short fold separation that has been repaired on the reverse side with acid free conservation tape (this tape will not turn yellow or become brittle).
